Public Notice related to Interim Mayor Appointment Process – Notice of Special Meetings

Due to a vacancy in the office of Mayor, Louisa Town Council is seeking applications from town citizens interested in being appointed as Interim Mayor. Once appointed, such individual will hold the office of Mayor until a Special Election is held to allow town voters to elect a candidate to complete the remainder of the current mayoral term, which ends on December 31, 2026, and such person is qualified and sworn into office. In accordance with state elections law, Council has filed a petition with the Circuit Court requesting the special election to be held during the next general election, scheduled for November 4, 2025. To be eligible for appointment as Interim Mayor candidates must be a qualified voter and resident of the Town of Louisa. Experience in local government is preferred but not required, depending on a candidate’s other relevant education and experience. Interested individuals must submit a cover letter and resume to: Liz Nelson, Town Manager in person at 212 Fredericksburg Avenue, Louisa, or by email to lnelson@louisatown.org no later than 5:00 pm on October 29, 2024.
Council will hold a SPECIAL MEETING on October 30 at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers at Town Hall (212 Fredericksburg Avenue) to announce the names of all persons being proposed for the interim appointment. Each candidate’s cover letter, resume and any other materials submitted for consideration will be available for public inspection at that meeting.
Council will hold another SPECIAL MEETING seven days later, on November 6, 2024, at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers at Town Hall (212 Fredericksburg Avenue) to consider the appointment of Interim Mayor.
