We want to share some exciting news about a program happening in our community. The Town of Louisa is working hard to evaluate the water and wastewater infrastructure and is currently working on developing an Asset Management Plan in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH)’s standards. We’re excited to share some key details with you, making sure you’re informed and assured about this initiative.
What is Asset Management?
Asset Management is a planning process to ensure that the local water and wastewater systems get the most value from each of their assets and have the financial resources to rehabilitate and replace assets when necessary. It’s part of our commitment to ensuring the highest standards in water quality and wastewater management, as well as increasing the efficiency and the reliability of our infrastructure and assets. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Pipes, Valves, Hydrants, Meters, Manholes, Cleanouts, Pump Stations, Storage Tanks.
It’s not About System Issues:
We want to emphasize that this program has nothing to do with any suspected deficiencies in our water quality or wastewater management. This is a proactive measure to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of our water and wastewater systems, and that we are implementing best management practices to successfully maintain our systems for years to come. This program will also ensure that we continue to provide you with stellar water quality and maintain control of our distribution system to facilitate fire protection activities.
It’s Funded!
Here’s the good news – we secured funding that allows us to carry out this Asset Management Plan development without any impact on our citizens utility or tax bills. We believe in being fiscally responsible and leveraging opportunities to benefit our community, and this funding helps us do just that.
What to Expect:
Over the coming weeks, starting on Monday November 18th, you may notice our team conducting surveys and assessments around the community. This is simply part of compiling accurate information about our system assets. The teams will consist of our contractor, CHA Consulting, Inc., and Town staff. They may need to access meters or sewer cleanouts that are located close to private property lines. No construction or land disturbance will be taking place. This is only for data collection purposes.
Your Cooperation Matters!
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work towards completing this Asset Management Plan to benefit the Town’s water and wastewater systems. Your involvement ensures the success of this initiative and contributes to the overall well-being of our community.
